- Dress For Success
Buying yourself some new gym gear can help to get you enthused about working out. Just the thought of putting on a new pair of flashy gym tights and a funky new top gets me ready to hit the gym. Can’t afford new gear? No worries, you can still pop on your gym gear and just being in the active wear will help to encourage that active lifestyle feeling so that chances are, you end up at the gym kicking heels up to the latest Les Mills dance routine.
2. Coffee, Coffee, Coffee
Caffeine is a great energy stimulator and pre workout kickstarter. If you are looking for a quick inexpensive and clean hit, then coffee is your answer. Just be sure to order an espresso only, as having a milky, sugary coffee prior to your workout can sometimes leave you feeling ill and who wants to add sugar just before your workout?!
3. Let There Be Light!
As it gets darker, our moods can often feel just as drab and dreary. The dark light that accompanies night time and often wintry days, releases a hormone called Melatonin that tells the brain its time to sleep, so the body relaxes and gets tired. Instead, try cranking up the lights or step outside in the daylight (if its bright out) and switch off that hormone which will tell your brain its daytime that you need to wake up. Also with the light of day, comes increased cortisol which will help to increase energy levels.
4. See The Big Picture
Don’t think about your one upcoming workout that you are dreading. Instead think about where you want to be in 3 months. Picture your goals. Your dreams. Where do you see yourself, what do you look like, what are you wearing and what do you FEEL like? Often when you can see yourself in the future, happy and bright, your butt will be kicked into gear with a good ole hit of motivation. If you don’t, no one else will do it for you! And if you want to achieve greatness, you best get moving girl!
5. Getting Rockin’
Turn up the tunes so loud that your body starts a rockin. I find the more I crank the tunes, the more my body can’t help but move and sway and I always end up dancing. The more you move, the more your happy hormones will flow and the more likely you are to be motivated to throw on some gym gear to hit the gym. And if that doesn’t, work…well at least you managed to burn calories dancing around your house!
