We are always amazed at the number of people we have coming through for Mind Body classes. These classes include Mind & Body Balance, Pilates and Yoga . Currently, People attending these classes outweigh the number of people attending any of the other classes on our timetable. The reason for the popularity of these classes is due to the well-established, highly professional and extremely capable instructors we have. Each instructor has their strengths and has developed a real following amongst our members. We at Blackwood Fitness cannot speak highly enough of our instructors!
Another reason for the popularity of these classes is the public’s growing awareness of the need for balance and mindfulness in their lives. With ever increasing pressures in our lives, people are finding a greater need for calm and balance. These mind body classes give people a means to escape the rush of everyday life. Mind Body classes offer balance for the more hectic, non-stop side of our lives. Learning Balance and mindfulness can benefit one during their everyday life. Therefore skills learnt during Mind Body classes, particularly during meditations, can be carried through to everyday life.
Mindfulness and the Buddha
Mindfulness is a spiritual or psychological faculty that, according to the teaching of the Buddha, is considered to be of great importance in the path to enlightenment. The Buddha advocated that one should establish mindfulness in one’s day-to-day life maintaining as much as possible a calm awareness of one’s body, feelings, mind, and dhammas. (Source.)
Mindfulness practice, inherited from the Buddhist tradition, is being employed in psychology to alleviate a variety of mental and physical conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety, and in the prevention of relapse in depression and drug addiction. Modern life is stressful and finding a way of developing mindfulness will assist in dealing with daily stress. It’s no wonder people are flocking to these classes as the benefits they achieve can be carried through into their everyday lives. We highly recommend busy people try to build a couple of classes into their week. If everyone can find a bit more calm and mindfulness in their lives, perhaps the world would be a slightly less crazy.
